Saint Finnan of Iona: Apostle of Moidart
Saint Finnan was a missionary bishop from Iona who died in 661. He worked closely with Saint Columba and had a chapel dedicated to him on the Isle of Tiree which both saints visited regularly.
He lived and worked in Moidart along with Saint Columba.
He had a cell and chapel on the Green Isle in Loch Shiel which we try to visit on or near his name day.
His feast day is March 16th and the weather is not usually kind enough or the hours of daylight numerous enough to plan with certainty.
Troparion of St Finnan in Tone 2
The image of God was preserved in you O Finnan, for you did take up your cross and follow Christ.
You did teach by your example that the flesh is to be spurned as transient, while the soul needs great care as immortal.
Wherefore Holy Finnan you are rejoicing with the angels.
The Ikon of Saint Finnan is from the hand of Bede Martin - Edinburgh.
