The Water of Life: Uisghe Bheatha.

First Baptism at Saint Finnan and Saint Nicolas Church.

We searched high and low for a suitable receptacle to use for the baptism of a Lithuanian baby on the feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God.

Just in the nick of time we were given a very generous donation from the famous Springbank Distillery in Campbelltown of half an old whisky cask which was absolutely perfect for the baptism of Demid Kusnecovs into the great Christian Church. Very grateful thanks to Gavin McLachlan for coming to the rescue.

From a purely practical point of view, the staves, in whisky casks which have not been used for some time, tend to separate yet it is possible to make them leak-proof once more by filling the half cask with hot water and allowing it to do its job overnight. With not a drip in sight, the church that morning had the most wonderful aromatic combination of wood with malted barley, Mount Athos Rose Incense and the aromatic Chrismation oil from Constantinople.

Demid – welcome to the church.
